The Analysis on the Attitudes of General Miilitary Servicemen conerning the Comeback of Convalescent Patients from Military


Abstract
This Study was conducted to explore the degree of the agreement of general military servicemen about 1) the possibility of the comeback of recovering patients, who were not physically ready to take full-scale militar
y taskes, from military
hospitals to
their units; 2) the rearrangement of duty and task of recovering patients in their units; 3) the negative effect of the rearrangement of duty and task of the recovering patients of their unit morale; 4) the cooperation in the health management of
the
recovering patients in their units. 584 military servicemen were used as the final sample of the study. 71.1% of the sample were enlisted men and 19.8% were officers. Data were collected for August 1993 by using a structured questionnaire
containing 49
questions: 4 items regarding personal information; 5 items regarding degree of satisfaction with life in their unit; 40 items regarding personal informations; 5 items regarding degree of satisfaction with life in their units: 40 items regarding
the
degree of the agreement. In order to measure the degree of the aggreement of general military servicemen, four cases of convalescent patients who didn't need a particular treatment and nursing care in military hospital were presented. Their chief
complaints were back pain(case 1), sprain of a left foot(case 2), hypertension(case 3) and appendicitis(case 4). The findings of the study were the followings: 1) For the possibility of the comback of the recovering patients from the military
hospital
to their units, the percents of the aggereement were 55.8 for case 1,29.9 for case 2, 56.1 for case 3 and 50.5 for case 4 2) For the exclusion of the recovering patients from fatiguing work and hard training, the percents of the agreement were
78.8
for
case 1, 87.8 for case 2, 70.5 for case 3 and 84.0 for case 4. For the decrease in workload, the percents of the agreements were 97.3 for case 1, 94.1 for case 2, 94.4 for case 3 and 95.3 for case 4. 3) For the negative effect of the exclusion of
the
recovering patient from fatiguing duty and hard training of unit morale, percents of the agreement were 37.2 for case 1, 26.9 for case 2, 30.1 for case 3 and 24.6 for case 4, For the negative effect of decrease in workload, 21.3 for case 1,
20.6for
case
2, 22.7 for cases 3 and 19.0 for cases 4, 4) For cooperation in health management in their units, generally the sample were more likely to support rest at dispensary than rest at the unit. For cooperation in taking reqular health check-up
exercise,
physical therapy and good nutrition, almost all, more than 90% of the sample were agreed.
